अरावली पर्वत माला : गुजरात के पालनपुर से लेकर दिल्ली की रायसीना पहाड़ी तक फैले हुए अरावली पर्वतमांला की कुल लंबाई 650 किलोमीटर में से 550 किलोमीटर राजस्थान में है । इसकी कुल लंबाई का करीब 80% हिस्सा राजस्थान में है ।
गुरु शिखर की वास्तविक ऊंचाई: अरावली पर्वतमाला की दक्षिणी अरावली में गुरु शिखर जो राजस्थान की सबसे ऊंची चोटी है उसकी कुल ऊंचाई को लेकर कई बार लोगों की दुविधा की स्थिति होती है, लेकिन आपको यह जान लेना आवश्यक है कि गुरु शिखर पर्वत की वास्तविक ऊंचाई 1722 मीटर( 5650 फीट) ही है जबकि कई बार इसकी ऊंचाई 1727मीटर बताई जाती है। इस चोटी के ऊपर 5 मीटर ऊंचा दत्तात्रेय ऋषि का मंदिर है जिसको इसमें जोड़ने पर गुरु शिखर की कुल ऊंचाई 1727 मीटर यानी कि 5666 फिट हो जाती है। लेकिन गुरुशीखर की ऊंचाई 1722मीटर ही सही मानी जाती है।
गुरु शिखर पर है इस ऋषि का मंदिर: इस चोटी पर दत्तात्रेय ऋषि का मंदिर है । हिंदू पौराणिक कथाओं के अनुसार, दत्तात्रेय को भगवान विष्णु का अवतार माना जाता है। इस कारण इस शिखर को गुरु शिखर कहा जाता है।
इसे संतो का शिखर क्यों कहा जाता है : गुरु शिखर को संतो का शिखर की संज्ञा भी दी जाती है। इसके पीछे का कारण बताया जाता है की एक बार कर्नल जेम्स टॉड इस गुरु शिखर पर भ्रमण करने आए थे तो उन्हें यहां पर कई संत तपस्या करते हुए दिखाई दिए। इसी कारण इसे संतो का शिखर भी कहा जाता है । इसके अतिरिक्त इस एक इंसलबर्ग या बैथोलिक की संज्ञा भी दी जाती है।
