विश्व के सबसे बड़े लोकतांत्रिक देश भारत में संसदीय शासन व्यवस्था को स्वीकार किया गया है । बिहारी बाबू के नाम से प्रसिद्ध डॉक्टर राजेंद्र प्रसाद देश के पहले निर्वाचित राष्ट्रपति थे । देश के स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में महिलाओं की बढ़-चढ़कर भागीदारी रही है वहीं दूसरी ओर सविधान निर्माण में भी देश की 15 महिलाओं ने अपना अमूल्य योगदान दिया है । हालांकि यह भी एक सत्यता है कि महिलाओं की संख्या अल्प मात्रा मेंं ही थी ।
संविधान लागू होने के काफी लंबे अर्से तक देश की राजनीति मे महिलाओं का प्रतिनिधित्व भी अल्प मात्रा में ही देखा गया। देश के राज्याध्यक्ष और कार्यपालिका प्रमुख राष्ट्रपति जैसे पद पर भी महिला उम्मीदवारों की संख्या कम ही देखी गई । भारत के संविधान लागू होने के 57 वर्ष के पश्चात 25 जुलाई 2007 को पहली बार श्रीमती प्रतिभा देवी सिंह पाटिल राष्ट्रपति के रूप में निर्वाचित होने वाली पहली महिला है ।
आपको यह जानकर आश्चर्य होगा की प्रतिभा देवी सिंह पाटिल भले ही भारत की पहली महिला राष्ट्रपति निर्वाचित हुई हो लेकिन राष्ट्रपति पद हेतु निर्वाचन में उम्मीदवार बनने वाली वह पहली महिला नहीं थी बल्कि यह पांचवीं महिला उम्मीदवार थी । इससे पूर्व भी चार महिलाये राष्ट्रपति के निर्वाचन में उम्मीदवारी कर अपनी उपस्थिति दर्ज कर चुकी थी ।
- राष्ट्रपति चुनाव में अब तक ये महिला उम्मीदवार बनी ?
राष्ट्रपति के निर्वाचन में अब तक उम्मीदवार बनने वाली कुल 6 महिलाएं है । जिनमें से अब तक एकमात्र महिला उम्मीदवार प्रतिभा देवी सिंह पाटिल ही राष्ट्रपति बनी है जो की प्रथम महिला राष्ट्रपति भी हैं ।
- श्रीमती कृष्णा कुमार चटर्जी :-
स्वतंत्रता के पश्चात राष्ट्रपति के प्रथम निर्वाचन जो कि 2 मई 1952 को आयोजित हुए थे । इस निर्वाचन में पहली महिला उम्मीदवार कृष्णा कुमार चटर्जी थी जिनको इस निर्वाचन में कुल मत (मत मूल्य) 533 था तथा इस चुनाव में डॉ. राजेंद्र प्रसाद राष्ट्रपति निर्वाचित हुए थे ।
- श्रीमती मनोहरा होलकर :-
सन 1967 में राष्ट्रपति के चौथे निर्वाचन हुये इसमें निर्दलीय उम्मीदवार के रूप में श्रीमती मनोहरा होलकर राष्ट्रपति पद के चुनाव में उम्मीदवार थी । अब तक ये दूसरी महिला उम्मीदवार थी । चुनाव में इनका कोई विशेष प्रदर्शन नही रहा । इस चुनाव में कोई भी मत प्राप्त नहीं हुए और इस चुनाव में डॉ.जाकिर हुसैन राष्ट्रपति निर्वाचित हुये थे ।

- श्रीमती फूल चरण कौर
डॉ जाकिर हुसैन की मृत्यु के पश्चात 1969 में राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए पांचवा निर्वाचन आयोजित हुआ । इस चुनाव में श्रीमती फूल चरण कौर महिला उम्मीदवार थी जो अब तक के राष्ट्रपति चुनाव में तीसरी महिला थी । इनको इस चुनाव में कुल 940 मत (मत मूल्य) प्राप्त हुए थे और इस चुनाव में वी. वी. गिरि राष्ट्रपति निर्वाचित हुए थे ।
- डॉ. लक्ष्मी सहगल:-
सन 2002 में राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए बाहरवें निर्वाचन में वामपंथी दलों की तरफ से श्रीमती लक्ष्मी सहगल महिला उम्मीदवार थी जो कि अब तक के राष्ट्रपति के चुनाव में चौथी महिला उम्मीदवार थी । डॉ.लक्ष्मी सहगल सुभाष चंद्र बोस की आजाद हिंद फौज में कैप्टन थी आपको जानकर आश्चर्य होगा कि डॉ. लक्ष्मी सहगल जी मूलतः जच्चा बच्चा रोग विशेषज्ञ डॉक्टर थी । इस चुनाव में इनको प्राप्त कुल मत मूल्यों का योग 1,07,366 थे । इस चुनाव में डॉ.ए. पी.जे.अब्दुल कलाम विजय हुये थे ।
- श्रीमती प्रतिभा देवी सिंह पाटिल
सन 2007 में राष्ट्रपति पद हेतु तेरहवाँ चुनाव में अब तक की पांचवीं महिला उम्मीदवार श्रीमती प्रतिभा देवी सिंह पाटिल थी । इनको इन चुनाव में प्राप्त कुल मत मूल्यों का योग 6,38,116 थे और इस चुनाव में श्रीमती प्रतिभा देवी सिंह पाटिल ही विजय रही थी । इस प्रकार श्रीमती प्रतिभा देवी सिंह पाटिल की स्वतंत्रता के बाद देश की पहली महिला राष्ट्रपति निर्वाचित हुई थी। श्रीमती प्रतिभा देवी सिंह पाटिल राष्ट्रपति बनने से पूर्व राजस्थान की पहली महिला राज्यपाल थी। इन्होंने 22 जून 2007 को राज्यपाल के पद से अपना त्यागपत्र दिया था ।
- श्रीमती मीरा कुमार :-
सन 2017 में राष्ट्रपति पद हेतु पंद्रहवाँ निर्वाचन हुआ जिसमें यूपीए की तरफ से श्रीमती मीरा कुमार उम्मीदवार थी । ये अब तक के राष्ट्रपति निर्वाचन में छठवी महिला उम्मीदवार थी । इस चुनाव में इन को प्राप्त कुल मत मूल्यों का योग 3,67,314 है लेकिन इस चुनाव में रामनाथ कोविंद राष्ट्रपति निर्वाचित हुए है। श्रीमती मीरा कुमार पूर्व उप प्रधानमंत्री और स्वतंत्रता सेनानी बाबू जगजीवन राम जी की पुत्री है । राजनीति में आने से पूर्व यह भारतीय विदेश सेवा में अपनी थी । विदेश सेवा में इनका चयन 1973 में हुआ तब से 1984 अपना त्याग पत्र देने तक इन्होंने दुनिया के कई देशों में अपनी सेवाएं दी ।
- द्रौपदी मुर्मू
सन 2022 में राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए 17 वे चुनाव में द्रोपदी मुर्मू जो एक आदिवासी महिला है राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए एनडीए की तरफ से उम्मीदवार बनाई गई थी ज्ञात हो कि द्रोपदी मुर्मू अब तक के हुए राष्ट्रपति चुनाव में सातवी महिला उम्मीदवार थी। इस चुनाव में विपक्ष का उम्मीदवार यशवंत सिन्हा थे। इस चुनाव में अगर द्रोपदी मुर्मू विजय होती है तो यह देश की दूसरी महिला और देश की पहली आदिवासी महिला राष्ट्रपति होगी।
